The girls and boys indoor track and field teams went up against some excellent competition at the Ice Breaker Invitational at the CrossPlex on January 3rd. The Patriots competed in the 7A division to go against tougher competition and ended up placing 3rd in the boys and tied for 4th in the girls. Hoover and Hewitt-Trussville beat the boys. Elizabeth-Seton (Maryland), James Clemens, and Hoover beat the girls, who tied with Huntsville.
Kiara Williams led the girls by winning both the long jump (ranked 5th in U.S) and triple jump (U.S. #6). Williams placed 2nd in the 60m hurdles and also ran on the 4x200m relay team that was 2nd. Elysa Griffin, Williams, Christian Hill, and Hunter Midgett were all on the 4x200m relay team that is ranked 19th in the U.S. Christian Hill placed 3rd in the High Jump.
Alazae Hester-Taylor led the boys again by winning the Triple Jump (U.S. #17), placing 2nd in the High Jump, and 4th in the 60m hurdles. Andy Smith had another great meet and won a spectacular race in the 1600m by running a 4:28.58. Alex Ngei and Logan Sadler both had 2nd place finishes in the 3200m and 800m respectively.
