The Homewood Indoor Track and Field Teams had a tremendous showing at the MLK Jr. Indoor Classic on Monday. The girls placed 2nd, and the boys placed 3rd out of 97 competing teams. Kiara Williams, who recently committed to Alabama, led the girls by winning the long jump, placing second in the triple jump, and 4th in the 60m hurdles. Williams, Elysa Griffin, Christian Hill, and Hunter Midgett won the 4x200m relay. Elysa Griffin had a great meet and placed 3rd in the long jump.
Alazae Hester-Taylor led the boys by winning the high jump, placing 3rd in the 60m hurdles, and placing 4th in the triple jump. Hester-Taylor was also on the 4x400m relay team that won. The other members of that relay team were Tucker Wilson, Logan Sadler, and Davis Platt. Alex Ngei ran an excellent 3200m and placed 2nd with a 9:53, and Andy Smith placed 3rd in the 1600m. Additionally, Teverius Lindsey tied for 3rd in the high jump.
Homewood has one meet left before the State Championships. The Last Chance Invitational is Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
