The Homewood track and field teams had excellent showings at both the Hoover Relays and at the Trussville Six Team Invite. Last Saturday at the Hoover Relays the girls 4×100 and 4x200m relay teams broke the existing school record. The girls 4x100m relay team of Elysa Griffin, Hunter Midgett, Christian Hill, and Kiara Williams ran 48.87 to also break the meet record. Elysa Griffin, Hunter Midgett, Ann Mosely Whitsett, and Kiara Williams were on the 4x200m team that won. Additionally, Sarah Blake improved on her own school record by throwing the javelin 129-9. The boys 4x1600m relay team of Alex Ngei, Logan Sadler, Sean Conboy, and Hunter Poole won their race.
Hewitt-Trussville hosted a meet yesterday that had several powerhouse programs participating. The girls won the meet by beating Mountain Brook, and the boys were 2nd to Hewitt-Trussville, who is one of the best 7A teams in the state. Kiara Williams (LJ, TJ, 100H, 300H), Sarah Blake (Jav, Discus), and Alazae Hester-Taylor (110H, 300H) all won multiple events. Other event winners were the girls 4×100 (Elysa Griffin, Hunter Midgett, Christian Hill, and Jasmine Griffin), Ann Mosely Whitsett (400m), and Andy Smith (1600m).
Next Saturday Homewood is hosting the Homewood Invitational, which is one of the largest meets in the state every year. Last year there were 50 teams entered with 1400 athletes, and this year could be even bigger.
