The girls track and field team dominated the Mountain Brook Invitational last Friday and Saturday and won by over 50 points. Kiara Williams earned MVP honors and had a huge day by winning the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. Elysa Griffin also had a great day by winning the 200m and placing 2nd in both the long jump and 200m. Sarah Blake won the javelin and broke her own school record. Ann Mosely Whitsett got 3rd in the 400m and 4th in the 800m. Madison Kirkwood ran her personal best and ended up 3rd in the 100m hurdles. The girls 4x400m relay team of Elysa Griffin, Ann Mosely Whitsett, Madison Kirkwood, and Hunter Midgett broke their own school record and won the 4x400m relay. The 4x 100m relay team placed 3rd overall and ran well.
The boys finished a close 2nd behind Hewitt-Trussville, and Alazae Hester-Taylor earned MVP honors. Hester-Taylor was 1st in the 110m hurdles, 2nd in the 300m hurdles, 3rd in the high jump, and 4th in triple jump. Logan Sadler won the 800m and was 4th in the mile, and Andy Smith was 4th in the 800m and 6th in the mile. The 4x800m relay team of Logan Sadler, Hunter Poole, Sean Conboy, and Andy Smith won, while breaking 8:00 and the school record.
Homewood’s next meet is at Hewitt-Trussville this weekend, but many team members will be attending Homewood’s prom. Also, several athletes signed athletic scholarships on Wednesday, April 15. There will be more athletes to sign at the banquet, but here are the athletes that signed Wednesday.There will be an article and pictures about the signing soon.
