Elysa Griffin is signing with the University of South Alabama during the NCAA early signing period. South Alabama is a NCAA Division 1 institution that competes in the Sun Belt Conference, and the Homewood coaching staff believes Elysa will make an immediate, significant, and positive impact on South Alabama’s track and field team.
Elysa has been a team leader for Homewood the last three years and expects to have a tremendous senior season. Elysa helped lead the girls’ track and field teams to back to back outdoor state championships and three indoor runner-up finishes during her time at the high school. Coach Tom Esslinger said, “Elysa is the rare athlete that does more than what is asked of her, and she always does it with an exceptional attitude. She never complains and is a fierce competitor whose improvements are a direct result of her work ethic and determination.”
Elysa’s accomplishments include the following: top 100 in the U.S. in the long jump for 2015, individual state champion in the long jump for 2015 indoor season, a part of four state champion relay teams, and All-State as an individual four times.
