Multiple Teams · Strong Start at the Magic City Invitational

The Homewood Indoor Track & Field teams got off to a great start at the CrossPlex on Saturday at the Magic City Invitational, which had over 70 schools entered.  The Patriots finished 2nd behind Hoover in both the boys and the girls in the 6A/7A division.  Jasmine Griffin (1st 60m with the #1 time in the US, 2nd 400m, 3rd 60m Hurdles), Makiyah Sills (3rd 60m, 5th 60m Hurdles), Lainey Phelps (1st 800m), Celie Jackson (3rd 3200m), and Christian Hill (3rd Long Jump) led the girls team by earning top three finishes in their events.  The girls 4x200m of Griffin, Sills, Hill, and Briana Rapley ran well and was 2nd behind Clinton, MS.  Also, Alex Brooks had a big day and broke the school record in the girls pole vault by jumping 10 feet.  The boys team was led by Josh Thomas (3rd Triple Jump), Patrick McMahon (3rd Shot Put), and Alvin Finch (3rd 3200m).  Both teams will be competing on Saturday at the CrossPlex in the Holiday Invitational.
