The varsity girls and boys continued their dominance at the Sectional Championships last Thursday by winning both divisions easily. Both teams have won Sectionals seven years in a row since Homewood dropped classifications in 2012. The girls had a 20:12 average 5K time and were led by Lainey Phelps (1st), Edie Smith (3rd), Victoria Thompson (4th), Zoe Nichols (6th), and Lily Blish (8th). The boys had an average 5K time of 16:51 and were led by Will Stone (1st), Carson Bedics (4th), Jack Gray (5th), Jon Fielding Stogner (8th), and Logan Justice (9th). The State Championships are this Saturday. The boys are favored in their bid for their 7th consecutive championship, and the girls will battle it out with Ft. Payne in an effort to win the championship.
HMS and HHS combined to have an outstanding meet at the Alabama JV Championships. The girls were 2nd behind Mountain Brook and were led by Maris Owen (2nd), Sarah Derriso (5th), Sydney Dobbins (6th), Caroline Wilder (9th), and Marin Poleshek (11th). The boys won the meet and were led by Grayton Murray (2nd), Andrew Laird (8th), Leny Mbogo (12th), Ivan Pichardo-Njenga (15th), Sam Gray (17th), and John Andress (25th).
