Both the Homewood boys and girls indoor track and field teams have had outstanding starts to the season after competing in three varsity meets and one JV meet. Both teams have #1 rankings as they head into the last month of the season with one regular-season varsity meet left before the State Championships the first weekend in February. The girls team has won two (Holiday Invitational and Icebreaker Invitational) of the three varsity meets at the Birmingham Crossplex while competing against both 6A and 7A schools from all over the state, and the boys have also been one of the top five teams in all classifications at each meet. Boubacar Sylla (three times in 60m Hurdles), Makiyah Sills (three times in 60m Hurdles), Will Stone (1600m, 3200m), and Lainey Phelps (3200m, 800m) each have won an event at every meet they have competed in. Sylla, Sills, and Stone have all set meet records.
The following athletes are currently ranked #1 in 6A in their events: Lainey Phelps (3200m), Makiyah Sills (60m Hurdles), Aiya Finch (Long Jump and Triple Jump), Will Stone (800m, 1600m, 3200m), Stephon May (High Jump), Eli Brooks (Pole Vault), Girls 4x200m (Makiyah Sills, Jakaria Byrd, Ariana Roper, and Aiya Finch), and Girls 4x400m (Ariana Roper, Kiara Gooden, Sarah Derriso, and Makiyah Sills).
